December 2012

Dear Friends,

I want to bring you an update on Far Corners Ministry since our last newsletter in July.  It has been a very busy year, with two mission trips to Northeast India, exciting new areas of ministry, and a major building project completed.

The second trip of 2012 took place in November with a team of eight travelling to India from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Manitoba.  The team worked in two locations in West Bengal where conferences were held for pastors, women, and youth.  There was great interest in attending with a total registration of nearly 700 – great teaching and fellowship were enjoyed by all! The youngest team member celebrated her 17th birthday while working and sharing her gifts with the orphan children at Grace Ashram.

This team of volunteers also had the opportunity to be part of three significant events while in India:

1. Dedication and grand opening of the new Jalpaiguri Baptist church:  As you may recall, this new church building was begun during our previous trip in March 2012, and was to replace a small church for a growing city congregation.  With donations from Canada, and through the sacrificial giving of this local congregation, the new building was fully paid for and was completed in early November - measuring 45’X35’ and holding approximately 200 people.  Pastor Biplab is praying that the new building will see continued growth as people make commitments to Christ and join the fellowship.

2. Pastor’s Graduation: As a result of our pastor and lay pastor trainings, we are happy to announce that thirty-four men graduated after a program of study over the past two years.  Each of these men received a certificate of achievement and a twenty-seven volume set of New Testament commentaries in the Bengali language to recognize their accomplishment.

3. Pastor’s children education sponsorship: While in West Bengal, the Canadian team was able to meet with many of the pastors and families who are part of our school sponsorship program.  They shared fellowship and heard testimonies of just how much it means to these deserving families to have assistance with their schooling costs.  We hope to expand this program to include more families for the new school year starting in February 2013.

Your part in this ministry

I want to take this occasion to sincerely thank each and every one of you for having contributed toward the work of Far Corners Ministry – through your prayer support, your financial gifts, or your willingness to travel to India.  It has been five years since we started FCM, and at present we are receiving about 70% of what we need to fully fund this ministry.  I have taken a step of faith in sending some extra material for your prayerful consideration so that we can continue to respond to God’s call to help our needy Indian brothers and sisters.  Please take a minute to look over the options and reply in the self- addressed stamped envelope.  While all gifts are greatly appreciated, we would love to have a number of people sign up for automatic monthly giving, even if the monthly amount is small.  This would greatly assist in our ongoing work.
Please note that any donations that are post marked by December 31st will receive an income tax receipt for 2012.   Although it is not included on the response form, please let me know if you would prefer not to receive further mailings (usually 3-4 per year).  On behalf of the FCM Board of Directors, and my wife Ginny, please accept our best wishes that you experience God’s richest blessing during this Christmas season, and the start of 2013!

Yours in Christ’s service,

Rev. Dr. Shant Manuel
