July 2012

Dear Friends,

Although it’s only halfway through, 2012 has already been an exciting time for Far Corners Ministry!  We have been privileged to bring gifts of encouragement to so many through the distribution of warm blankets, shawls, and mosquito nets.  We are assisting poor pastors pay for their children’s schooling and needy congregations have received guitars to enhance their worship.  Some of these churches had been praying for a guitar for many years!

Here are some comments from people who received blankets:
"In this time when I had need of warm clothe to use in such a cold weather, God has sent such a wonderful gift - exactly what I needed. Thank you so much, we will never forget your gift and will lift you up in our prayers." – Sushma, a poor widow struggling to look after her family.

"This winter was very bad. We were struggling to keep warm. The Blanket Gift is a big surprise and we know God provides for his children. Thank you so much - our faith is raised and we are so thankful for you being so kind to us. This is something new and fresh we have after my husband died." – Heera, whose husband died of tuberculosis, leaving her to provide for four children.

Along with these ministries of mercy, this past March approximately four hundred pastors and women had the opportunity to learn more from God’s word at our conferences held in the cities of Siliguri and Sumaktala, West Bengal.  During this time, they also were able to enjoy rich, faith-building fellowship with both local and Canadian brothers and sisters in Christ.  Thanks so much to our last group of volunteers from Winnipeg, NS, and NB for so freely sharing their knowledge and Christ’s love!  The new Jalpaiguri church was also started with the help of two of the young men on that trip, and it is coming along well.

Dedicating that new church building is just one of the things that we are planning to do during our next mission trip. If you’re interested in joining the team going November 1st – 17th, we invite you to call or email us as soon as possible for more information.  We are looking for both pastors and women who have a desire to teach and share with very eager students.  You will also have the opportunity to participate in ministries of mercy, and see the impact of “a cup of cold water given in Jesus’ name”.  As we plan future trips, there will be opportunities for people to use their skills and gifts not only in the areas of teaching and construction, but also in health related fields, children’s ministry, computer skills and ESL.  We would be happy to provide more details if you are interested.

Other Ways to Get Involved
If you’re not able to join us in Northeast India, you can still play a very important role in this ministry.  As always, we covet your prayers as we continue to grow and reach out in love.  We really do feel the impact of God’s people praying for this work!  I want to take this occasion to say “thank you” for your prayers and for your financial support.  Both of these are so important in enabling Far Corners Ministry to continue.

I want to mention a few things that you can consider helping us with in future ministry. There is an always ongoing need for warm blankets and shawls in the cooler weather, and mosquito nets in the hot season – gifts that can make a real everyday difference for $10 or less.  We have been able to fund the education of twelve pastor’s children this year, and would like to continue with these families and be able to expand this project to others.  To think that $200 covers the entire year’s education costs!  Interest in attending pastoral and women’s training conferences continues to be very high, and only $25 allows us to bring one person to the conference, providing their travel, meals, resource materials, and other associated costs.  The congregation of the Jalpaiguri Baptist Church has given sacrificially toward their new church, and because of our partnership with them, only $3000 is needed to complete this building.  Our Regional Coordinator, Shakti, travels many miles on behalf of this ministry, and his small car has run its course, leaving him to try and get around on a motorcycle.  We would like to help provide something suitable for him in the future with the cost of a new vehicle being approximately $12,000.

We have been hoping that Shakti will be able to come to Canada and visit many of your churches, giving you first hand news about the exciting things happening in Northeast India.  Please be in prayer for the granting of his Canadian visitor’s visa in the next 2-3 weeks.  If this is approved, we are planning for him to spend one month with us starting early September.  Please let us know if you would like him to speak at your church or other group meeting.  Far Corners can also help you set up a fall or Christmas campaign by using a small gift catalogue that would incorporate many of the above-mentioned needs.  As with any ministry, there is always the need for regular, undesignated donations to allow us to cover our administrative costs and minister as God leads.  Sincere thanks to those churches and individuals who continue to support this ministry!  We are enclosing a form for pre-authorized monthly giving through your local bank account. If this is something that God prompts you to do, simply mail the form back to us. Remember that as God’s people give even modest amounts, great things can be accomplished.  J. Hudson Taylor once said, “God’s work done God’s way will never lack God’s supplies”.
